What if most Americans aren't bitterly divided?

In 2018, the group More in Common published a huge report on the “hidden tribes” of American politics. “Devoted Conservatives” made up 6% of those polled and “Progressive Activists” 8%. These tribes dominate the media, political parties and higher education and dictate the competing narratives of red vs. blue, particularly on cable news and social media. Meanwhile the overwhelming majority of Americans were part of groups that were in, or adjacent to, the “exhausted majority.”
